Tilesetters cover, repair and decorate surfaces using ceramic, marble and other materials. Tilesetters may be employed by companies working in the residential, commercial and institutional field or self-employed..

Pathways Into the Trade
- Direct Entry
Start working with a certified journeyperson and begin your apprenticeship right away - no experience needed. Most apprentices spend about 80% of their time on the job and 20% in training. - Trade Experience
If you already have experience – whether in Canada or internationally – you may be able to challenge the trade qualifier exam and become certified.
Working Conditions
- Work on residential, commercial and institutional projects
- Install tile on floors, walls, ceilings, showers, pools and specialty surfaces
- Use hand tools, tile saws, grinders, mixers and layout equipment
- Work primarily indoors with some outdoor installations
- Perform physical work involving kneeling, bending, lifting and reaching
- Follow safety procedures while handling cutting equipment, adhesives and finishing materials
