Pathways Into the Trade
- Direct Entry
Start working with a certified journeyperson and begin your apprenticeship right away - no experience needed. Most apprentices spend about 80% of their time on the job and 20% in training. - Pre-Apprenticeship

Working Conditions
- Work in marinas, boatyards, repair facilities and yacht manufacturing operations
- Perform work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Work environment may include noise, fumes, odours, a vibrations
- Use hand tools, power tools, testing equipment and specialized marine tools
- Work on engines, electrical systems, hulls and onboard equipment
- Perform tasks on vessels in the water and on land-based supports
- Handle materials such as composites, wood, metals, paints and coatings
