Use your insulation solution skills to control the heat in buildings.
Insulators install insulating materials in commercial and industrial structures. They may also remove asbestos. They are employed by construction companies and insulation contractors, or they may be self-employed.

Pathways Into the Trade
- Direct Entry
Start working with a certified journeyperson and begin your apprenticeship right away - no experience needed. Most apprentices spend about 80% of their time on the job and 20% in training. - Trade Experience
If you already have experience – whether in Canada or internationally – you may be able to challenge the trade qualifier exam and become certified.
Working Conditions
- Work on industrial, commercial, institutional and residential projects
- Install insulation indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
- Work on piping systems, vessels, equipment and building systems
- Use hand tools, power tools, lifts, scaffolds and ladders
- Work at heights and in small spaces
- Follow safety procedures around hazardous materials and industrial environments
