Grow food, operate equipment, and lead farm production.
Farm Technicians work on farms that raise livestock and/or grow crops and fibres. They are responsible for key areas and daily operation of the farm.

Pathways Into the Trade
- Direct Entry
Start working with a certified journeyperson and begin your apprenticeship right away - no experience needed. Most apprentices spend about 80% of their time on the job and 20% in training. - Trade Experience
If you already have experience – whether in Canada or internationally – you may be able to challenge the trade qualifier exam and become certified.
Working Conditions
- Work on crop, livestock and mixed farming operations
- Split time between indoor and outdoor environments
- Work in fields, barns, greenhouses and farm shops
- Operate heavy equipment and specialized machinery
- Work in changing weather and seasonal conditions
- Perform physically demanding and hands-on work
