Recognized Credentials (Issued Within Canada)

If you hold a RECOGNIZED credential from another province or territory within Canada for a trade that is similar in scope to one of the Nova Scotia designated trades, your credential will be recognized as follows:

  • If the credential is in one of the compulsory certified trades under our legislation (Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act) WITH the Red Seal endorsement , there are no requirements.  Exception: Construction Electricians who wish to obtain an electrical wiring permit must obtain the Nova Scotia Equivalency Card regardless of whether they have the Red Seal endorsement or not.
  • If the credential is in one of the compulsory certified trades under our legislation (Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act) WITHOUT the Red Seal endorsement, you are required to obtain a Nova Scotia Equivalency Card. Information on the NS Equivalency Card.
  • If the credential is in one of the non-compulsory certified trades under our legislation (Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Act), there are no requirements.  Exception: Blasters who wish to work in Nova Scotia must obtain the Nova Scotia Equivalency Card.
