Apprenticeship is a method of learning that combines workplace and technical training. As an apprentice, you work under the supervision of a journeyperson on the job and take technical training in class or online.
- Workplace training: The duration of an apprenticeship is set by trade regulations. In addition to the time requirement, you must attain competence in the practical skills of your trade. A certified journeyperson signs off on these skills in your logbook.
- Technical training (in class or online): Ideally, you participate in technical training each year of your apprenticeship. This training is typically 6 to 8 weeks in duration.
