Credential Recognition

The Apprenticeship Training Division will assess certificates or licenses that are granted by a regulatory authority if they are in a trade or occupation that is similar in scope to any of the designated trades in Nova Scotia.

The Director has the discretion to approve applicants to write the Interprovincial Red Seal Exam or to recognize the certificate or license based on equivalent standards.

Please note:

  • “Regulatory authority” refers to a government department or agency, or an organization with authority delegated by law, that establishes standards or requirements for certification, assesses workers’ qualifications or issues certificates or licenses indicating a person met those standards. In most cases, the regulatory authority for the trades is the same authority that issues the Red Seal endorsement.
  • If you are an internationally trained worker, the province of Nova Scotia offers various supports to assist with immigration and working in Nova Scotia. Click here for further information.
